Zadie Xa with Benito Mayor Vallejo | Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, and Earth Remembers Everything

Zadie Xa, in collaboration with Benito Mayor Vallejo, presents the exhibition "Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, and Earth Remembers Everything." Xa creates immersive installations utilizing diverse media such as painting, textiles, sculpture, light, and sound to explore spiritual practices and intergenerational storytelling. Drawing from Korean heritage and West Coast upbringing, the works synthesize themes of mythology, shamanism, folklore, diasporic identity, and marine ecology. This exhibition is a continuation of the project presented at the 2025 Sharjah Biennial 16, which earned a nomination for the British Turner Prize. It marks the artist's first major solo exhibition in Alberta and is organized in partnership with The Power Plant, Toronto.
