Babel by RF Kuang Book Discussion

A book club discussion of Babel by RF Kuang, selected to compare with the author's other work, Yellowface. The story follows Robin Swift, an orphan brought to London to train at Oxford University's Royal Institute of Translation. Set in 1828, the narrative explores themes of colonialism, power, and identity as Robin discovers the institute's magical silver-working system. He eventually finds himself torn between serving the British Empire and joining the Hermes Society, a secret group opposing imperial expansion during the conflict between Britain and China.
