Erdem Taşdelen: Wounded in Three Acts

Contemporary Calgary · 701 11 St SW, Calgary, AB T2P 2C4, Canada

Wounded in Three Acts explores the human condition and sociopolitical realities through dramaturgic and narrative strategies. Using diverse media, the exhibition features an audio installation, a film, graphic prints, and a live performance. The works engage with themes of power, solidarity, and resistance, utilizing the languages of theatre and contemporary fiction to examine how individuals negotiate living alongside others with differing beliefs and worldviews. Specific projects include Unmade Films, a series of posters for imaginary motion pictures; The Characters, an audio installation based on archetypes from Theophrastus; Frictions, a moving image work reflecting on the psychological toll of polarization and social anxiety; and A Long Dramatic Pause, a live performance exploring resistance against ultranationalism. Together, these works use narrative as a constructive device to prompt reflection on personal agency and collective presence.
